In 2014, the team set out to redefine the boundaries of interactive storytelling. The challenge? To create a game that didn’t just simulate reality—it needed to infiltrate it. We envisioned a persistent, immersive experience that would engage players beyond the screen, weaving fiction seamlessly into their daily lives.

A game that went
beyond the screen.

The Black Watchmen was built as the first Permanent Alternate Reality Game. Players became agents of a covert organization, solving missions that spilled into real life—through emails, newspaper ads, websites, phone calls, and live events. Fiction became a layer of the everyday.

The narrative was community-driven and episodic. New missions dropped every two weeks, shaped by player decisions. Live ops (live operations) across 19 cities sent chosen agents into the field for 24-hour missions, guided by remote players through live streams and social media.

This experience proved that games could extend beyond platforms—into real life, real cities, and real community collaboration.

An ARG played across
seventy-five countries.

The game raised over forty-five thousand dollars through Kickstarter, validating the demand for innovative storytelling formats. It received critical acclaim, with Adventure Gamers rating it 90/100 and Game Informer awarding it a 5/5.

This project established a new benchmark for interactive narratives, proving that games could transcend traditional boundaries and become an integral part of players’ real lives.
